.*Diamond Blackfan anemia (DBA) is a rare blood disorder with less than a 1000 cases worldwide. 

*In DBA the bone marrow fails to produce red blood cells.

*It is frequently diagnosed within the first year of life, but it can also be noticed for the first time in adults

*There are approximately 25-35 new cases in Canada and the U.S. each year.

DBA Canada is proud to announce that we were able to partially sponsor two research projects in 2011 and the beginning of 2012.  
The first research project by Johan Flygare involves 
Identification of Genetic and Chemical Modifiers of Erythropoiesis in Diamond Blackfan Anemia. 
The second research project, which is a joint effort between Dr. Adrianna Vlachos and Dr. David Bodine, is a Strategic Approach to Gene Discovery in DBA.
